Cahul chapel marks patronal feast with Paschal liturgy: ‘Be aware that Christ is with us’

The Diocesan Chapel, “Resurrection of the Lord,” in Cahul celebrated its patronal feast on Monday, the second day of Holy Pascha.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia.

Referring to the Gospel according to Saint John, in which Christ grants the apostles the power to forgive sins, the bishop explained the importance of the gift of the Holy Spirit, which prepares people for their encounter with God.

“The Saviour Christ told the apostles to remain in Jerusalem until they would be clothed with power from on high. After the descent of the Holy Spirit, the apostles began to baptise,” he said.

Witnessing to Christ

The bishop underlined the call to live a life of witnessing to the faith.

“I would like us, as Christians of this world, having received purification through the Holy Spirit and fire, to become witnesses of Christ to the ends of the earth,” he urged.

He also emphasised Christ’s constant presence in the lives of believers.

“Let us be aware that Christ is with us, just as He was with the apostles: ‘Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ He is with us, sometimes in a visible way, at other times invisibly.”

The event coincided with the feast of the Holy Martyr Benjamin the Deacon, the spiritual patron of the bishop, according to the unrevised calendar.
