Bucharest Archdiocese offers hospital chapels as morgues for Covid-19 patients

As morgues struggle to cope with the high numbers of virus deaths, the Romanian Orthodox Church has offered hospital chapels in Bucharest to serve this purpose.

The Archdiocese of Bucharest said it would make available outside chapels at hospitals and chapels at cemeteries to help with the rising number of deaths.

Press release

Following the dramatic escalation of the situation in the hospitals treating Covid-19 patients in Bucharest and given the fact that the places of temporary storage of the bodies of the deceased have become insufficient in the morgues of these hospitals, the Archdiocese of Bucharest responds to requests for help and makes available the outside hospital chapels, the mortuary chapels of the nearby parishes and the chapels of the parish cemeteries in the immediate vicinity.

The Church expresses its solidarity with medical institutions and authorities facing the toughest challenge of the pandemic so far and appreciates the efforts of doctors and all healthcare staff who are fighting to save the lives of seriously ill patients.
