Romanian Bishop says nature is God’s gift during ‘Green Week’ visit to professional school

His Grace Bishop Visarion of Tulcea took part in “Green Week” activities at the “Vasile Bacalu” Professional School in Mahmudia, where he explained to pupils that nature is a gift from God to humanity.

The hierarch told the children that human beings bear responsibility for the environment, as reflected in the Church’s teaching and the lives of the saints.

“I presented to them evidence from both the Old and New Testaments regarding the biblical commandment to protect nature, because nature is truly a gift that God has given to mankind. Man, being God’s creation, has a special responsibility towards the natural environment.”

“I also offered examples from the lives of the Holy Fathers and from the life of the Church concerning the particular care we must show for nature, which is likewise created by God for our benefit,” the bishop said in remarks to Trinitas TV.

At the end of the day, the bishop and the pupils planted an olive tree in the school courtyard.
