Bishop Nestor receives the Synod’s vote again: Joy is no longer the same. It is a comforting balm over a sorrowful heart

His Grace Nestor was elected on Thursday by the Holy Synod in the dignity of Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara, succeeding Bishop Gurie Georgiu of blessed memory.

His Grace received the vote of the synodal members for the second time this year, after being elected Assistant Bishop to the Diocese of Deva on February 25.

“The natural joy of this moment is no longer the same. On the contrary, it is a comforting balm over a sorrowful heart and over all the sorrowful hearts of those of us who are in the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara,” the bishop said immediately after his election.

The newly elected bishop expressed his intention to continue the work and capitalize more on the rich material, especially spiritual heritage, left by His Grace Bishop Gurie after 12 years of pastoral ministry.

“He left us at an unexpected, premature moment, but we hope that through the spirit he left in the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara and through the work he carried on, he will remain our shepherd. And we, the rest, will only try, with the help of God and through the intercession of His Grace, to continue the fruitful work he has done in Hunedoara County.”

Bishop Nestor thanked Patriarch Daniel, Metropolitan Laurențiu of Transylvania, and the Synod for their trust.

“May the memory of His Grace Bishop Gurie be eternal, and I continue to ask you all: Remember me in your prayers. Help me with your advice, support and guidance so that as one who is younger in the Holy Synod, I may continue the work and carry on the legacy left by our Bishop Gurie,” the newly elected Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara noted.

The enthronement of the new bishop of Deva will take place on December 26.
