His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, issued a message on the occasion of 1 July, Canada’s National Day.
Bishop Ioan Casian described the celebration as “an opportunity to give thanks for the gift of freedom, peace and harmonious coexistence, strengthening in each of us the desire to contribute, through faith and good deeds, to the building of a society that is more just, more united and more spiritual.”
The Romanian hierarch extended his good wishes to all the faithful of the Diocese, as well as to all Canadians.
“In the times in which we live, marked by numerous challenges, uncertainty and an ever-growing need for solidarity and mutual understanding, may we remain steadfast in our faith in God, cultivate love for our neighbour, and work together for the common good with respect, responsibility and hope,” His Grace added.
The Romanian bishop ended his message with a prayer to God “to bless Canada, protect all who dwell within it, and pour out upon every family and every resident His abundant grace, peace, and boundless love.”
The Canadian Confederation was established by the British North America Act of 1867, while the country’s national day was instituted in 1868.
