Bessarabia Metropolitan urges prayer for peace

The Metropolis of Bessarabia is following with concern the situation on the borders of Ukraine, where peace is fragile, His Eminence Metropolitan Petru said.

“Tensions in the immediate vicinity of the Republic of Moldova threaten not only Ukraine but also the whole of Europe, which has only recently broken the iron curtain drawn after World War II,” Metropolitan Petru noted in a message posted on the official website of the Metropolis of Bessarabia.

“The power of weapons shakes and frightens us today that they can do much harm to men, while the Compassionate God always urges them all: ‘Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.’ (Psalm 34:14). Therefore, peace is the only option for people if they want to live in harmony with God.”

The Metropolitan of Bessarabia emphasized that to avoid war, “it is necessary to eliminate its causes, which start from injustice, violence, disregard, deprivation of liberty and dignity, oppression and the desire to become stronger than others.”

“All these vices have always led to wars between peoples and even between brothers of one blood,” the Metropolitan of Bessarabia cautioned.

His Eminence urged all the priests of the Metropolis of Bessarabia to offer prayers for peace.
