Banat Metropolitan celebrates name day by sending gifts to Timișoara prison, neuropsychiatric hospitals

On the feast of Saint John the Baptist, Metropolitan Ioan of Banat turned his attention to the inmates of Timișoara’s prison.

Ten prisoners selected with the help of the penitentiary management received a financial aid from the Metropolitan. Five of the detainees are called John, the Metropolis of Banat noted.

The money granted was transferred directly to the accounts of the respective persons.

On the same occasion, Metropolitan Ioan went on Thursday, Jan. 7, to the Neuropsychiatric Hospitals located in Jebel and Gătaia with 10.3 tons of food. Each medical unit received approximately 5 tons of products.

Every year, the hierarch performs charitable actions for St. the feast of John.

“There is nothing exceptional. This is normality for me and we should do such actions as often as possible,” Metropolitan Ioan said in 2019 when he spent his name day with homeless people.

The Jewish name for John, Yohanan, means “God is merciful” or “God is gracious.”
