Auxiliary Bishop for Deva and Hunedoara to be elected. Who are the two candidates

Archimandrites Nestor Dinculeană and Gherontie Ciupe were nominated for the position of Auxiliary Bishop to the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara. The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church will vote one of them to fill the new position.

The two nominations were approved on Monday by the Metropolitan Synod organized at the Diocesan Centre in Deva. The meeting was chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Laurențiu of Transylvania.

A press release issued by the diocese noted that Father Nestor Dinculeană is Administrative Vicar of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara and Father Gherontie Ciupe is an Eparchial Counselor at the Diocesan Pastoral-Liturgical Sector.

The position of Auxiliary Bishop for Deva and Hunedoara was established during the last working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, at the request of the diocese.

The Metropolis of Transylvania is comprised of the Archdiocese of Sibiu, the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia, the Diocese of Oradea, the Diocese of Covasna and Harghita, and the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara.
