Archbishop Teodosie on Romania’s Navy Day: The most special weapon of sailors is the protection of the Mother of God and angels

Archbishop Teodosie of Tomis participated in the events marking Romania’s Navy Day in Constanța on Saturday. The Archbishop of Tomis officiated a thanksgiving service and addressed the Romanian sailors and the authorities present.

Recalling that the Church honours Virgin Mary on August 15, the Archbishop said that Romania is also called the Garden of the Mother of God, and its chosen flowers are the inhabitants of the country.

“Among these chosen flowers, shine today the Romanian sailors who have a very difficult and risky mission. That is why the inspiration of those who made them the uniform was to have this white borrowed from the angels of God.”

“They need the protection of the Mother of God and the guard of the angels in their mission. It is the most beautiful, the most special weapon,” said Archbishop Teodosie on August 15.

“The sea is nothing but the symbol of our life through the waves and winds that swirl or calm it,” added His Eminence, who appreciated the organization of the celebrations in the current conditions “with many difficulties.”

The 2020 edition of the Romanian Navy Day was dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the modern Navy. Unlike other years, when the Romanian Naval Forces organized the largest naval show in our country, both at sea in Mangalia and Constanța, on the Danube in Brăila and Tulcea, as well as in other port cities, this year the event was presented at a smaller scale, which has, however, retained some traditional elements.

The Te Deum service officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Teodosie.

A short naval ceremony was followed by the speech of the President of Romania and the joint naval exercise “Romanian Naval Forces 2020” in the aquarium of the port of Constanta and in its outer harbor.
