Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens receives Honorary Doctorate from Thessaloniki’s School of Pastoral and Social Theology

The School of Pastoral and Social Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki decided Wednesday, 18 May 2016, to award an Honorary Degree to His Beatitude Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Romfea.gr reports.

We quote the decision of the School of Theology:

The Primate of the Autocephalous Church of Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, in his fifty years Church ministry has been distinguished for special pastoral contribution.

As Metropolitan of Thebes and Livadeia he established innovating charity institutions, while as Archbishop he breathed new life into the pastoral and social ministry of the Church of Greece.

His wise, discreet, but also powerful interventions reveal him as an important leader of the Church that he pastors and which he honours widely both in the Greek society and internationally.

Furthermore, Archbishop Ieronymos is one of the most cultivated Primates of the Church of Greece, with a decisive voice regarding the theological events, and a significant support of theological science.

His comprehensive and mature theological discourse supports the current and dynamic presence of the Church in the modern world. We note that His Beatitude has shown a strong interest in the protection and promotion of Byzantine monuments.

For the reasons mentioned above, we decide to award the Honorary Doctorate of our School to His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos, an honour which, besides its intrinsic value, will consecrate the manifestations that are to take place on the 50th priesthood anniversary.
