The 2026 Commemorative Year “will bring a greater societal understanding of the spiritual paths available to women,” said Alexandra Nadane, executive director of the Association for the Support of Pregnant Women and Families.
“I was very pleased to hear that the Holy Synod has declared 2026 as the Solemn Year of Christian Family Pastoral Care and the Commemorative Year of the Holy Women in the church calendar—myrrh-bearers, female martyrs, venerables, wives, and mothers—within the Romanian Patriarchate,” Alexandra Nadane told Basilica.ro.
“The solemn year dedicated to Christian family pastoral care is a significant opportunity for communities within Romania and the diaspora to develop activities and support programs for pregnant women, mothers, and families with children. These programs will address their emotional, material, and spiritual needs.”
Nadane added that “the decision to dedicate a year to the memory of holy women will not only increase awareness of those already canonized but also honour other holy women who are venerated by the faithful.”
“The light from these two categories, which are one in essence, will inspire girls, young women, and mature women alike on their life journeys, bringing a deeper understanding within society about a woman’s spiritual journey.”
The Association for the Support of Pregnant Women and Families has established Roua Centers in Bucharest, which provide support for women in crisis pregnancies and large families.
