Albania has unveiled its first monumental statue of Jesus Christ, inaugurated recently at one of the most scenic points of the Albanian Alps, in the Nikaj-Mërtur Natural Park in the Tropojë region.
The statue depicts Christ with outstretched arms, reminiscent of the famous “Christ the Redeemer” statue in Rio de Janeiro, according to JOQ Albania.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by religious leaders, locals, and numerous guests from Albania, Kosovo, and the Albanian diaspora. News of the event quickly spread across social media.
The statue was created by local resident Sokol Ndue Progni and has become both a spiritual and tourist symbol of the region immediately.
Mountain residents welcomed the statue with emotion and joy, considering it a sign of faith and of the cultural identity of the Tropojë area.
