A New Romanian Church to be built in Nice (Video)

The Romanian Orthodox community in the South East of France will have their own church. Sunday, 22 May 2016, the foundation stone of a new church was laid, to be dedicated to “Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen” and to “Saint Hierarch Nicholas” – TRINITAS TV informs. The religious service was celebrated at the location of the future place of worship by His Eminence Laurenţiu, Metropolitan of Transylvania, together with His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan for Western and Southern Europe.

The Metropolitan of Transylvania offered, on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, a particle of the relics of Saint Hierarch Andrei Şaguna, and an icon for the spiritual benefit of the faithful and especially for spiritually helping the construction of the new church.

Representatives of the local authorities, as well as of the other Christian denominations in Nice attended this important event in the life of the Romanian community. At the end, His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif thanked all those who supported and will support the project of the future church on the Cote d’Azur.

The plot of land on which the new church will be built was purchased in 2011, and last year the City Hall issued the building license. The time of the blessing of the foundation stone was the culmination of all the efforts made by the Romanian community in Nice.

The Romanian Orthodox community in Nice is going to build an Orthodox place of worship to reflect the national identity and spiritual values of the Romanian Diaspora. The project will also be a cultural, social and integration centre.
