Mount Athos has been digitally recreated on the OrthoCraft Minecraft server, a project dedicated to Orthodoxy that features reconstructions inspired by the architecture and spirituality of the Orthodox world.
The creator of the OrthoCraft server told Basilica.ro that the project’s latest achievement is “a detailed reconstruction of Mount Athos, including several monastic buildings recognised from the real world”.
The virtual reconstruction combines elements inspired by authentic Athonite architecture with original structures created by members of the community. Players are free to explore both Mount Athos and other constructions inspired by the Orthodox Christian world, including Romania’s National Cathedral.

“The Mount Athos region is designed to capture the atmosphere and structure of the monastic community while still allowing room for creative interpretation,” the server’s creator explained.
The initiative aims both to promote Orthodox heritage and to develop a creative space for a gaming community interested in the Eastern Christian tradition.
“OrthoCraft continues to expand through new constructions and ongoing improvements to existing areas,” the server administrator added.
More than 2,600 players interested in Orthodoxy
The OrthoCraft server is regarded as the first Minecraft server dedicated exclusively to Orthodoxy, sacred architecture and Eastern Christian heritage. The community brings together more than 2,600 players and digital creators interested in reconstructing spaces inspired by Orthodox tradition.
