A choir of about 4,000 young people performed religious hymns on Saturday evening in Cluj-Napoca during the event “Hymns of Heaven”, where Metropolitan Andrei of Cluj, Maramureș and Sălaj urged them to be faithful missionaries of Christ.
The event, unique in Romania, featured performances of traditional Orthodox hymns and songs honouring Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, with the aim of promoting authentic faith and moral values among young people.
Approximately 5,000 people attended, including Bishop Benedict of Sălaj and Assistant Bishop Samuel of Bistrița, from the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac, and Cluj.
The mass choir was conducted by Fr. Ciprian Taloș, parish priest at the “Nativity of the Lord” Church in Cluj-Napoca.
“The fact that you have gathered here brings us joy, and we hope it will inspire you to become good missionaries of Christ,” said Metropolitan Andrei in his opening remarks.
He also recalled the example of Saint Liviu Galaction Munteanu of Cluj, known for his dedication to catechising young people in the Church.
“Hymns of Heaven” – faith in harmony
The event, now in its third edition, was organised by the Christian Organisation “Agape”, whose Executive Director, Liviu Baltă, highlighted its dual mission — spiritual and charitable.
Founded in 2009, the Orthodox Christian NGO Agape supports family and youth development and is well-known locally for organising faith-based and cultural initiatives in partnership with the Metropolis of Cluj, Trinitas TV, Radio Renașterea, Oastea Domnului, and other institutions.
