Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy signs cooperation protocol with Romanian Embassy to support Diaspora

The Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Italy and the Romanian Ambassador to Italy, Malta, and San Marino signed a cooperation protocol on July 3.

His Grace Bishop Siluan and Her Excellency Gabriela Dancău signed the agreement as official representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy and the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Italy, Malta, and San Marino.

The protocol aims to support the Romanian community in its relationship with both local diaspora authorities and Romanian state institutions.

Objectives

The primary objective of the agreement is to assist Romanian citizens in vulnerable situations.

The protocol prioritises social projects dedicated to Romanians facing challenges related to material hardship, health, or integration, offering responses to urgent needs within the diaspora.

Furthermore, both institutions aim to strengthen the connection between Romanians and their roots by promoting the Romanian language, Orthodox faith, and national traditions.

The agreement also seeks to facilitate the organisation of educational programs, religious services, and cultural activities that help maintain a living connection to Romania, especially for young people born or raised abroad.

Finally, the protocol includes provisions for specialised social and consular assistance for members of the Romanian community in Italy, Malta, and San Marino.
