15 churches in Bacau included in new Ecumenical Cultural Route

The Ecumenical Tourist Cultural Route in Bacău County includes the most beautiful places of worship, mostly Orthodox, but also Catholic. The Route was set up at the initiative of the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, a member of a European agreement on cultural routes certified by the Council of Europe.

The route is 387 kilometres long and takes less than eight hours.

The Route includes the “Ascension of the Lord” Orthodox Cathedral and the “The Holy Apostles Peter and Paul” Catholic Church in Bacau, “Precista” Princely Church in Bacau, the Dormition of the Theotokos Monastery in Diaconești, Agaș, the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Oituz, the Church founded by St Stephen the Great at Borzești (Onești).

The places of worship are surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes.

In Bacău County there are also unique churches as regards the material from which they are built: St Barbara Church inside Târgu Ocna’s Salt Mine is unique in Europe; almost all its furniture is made in mountain’s salt.

The church from Caşin Monastery resembles Golia Church in Iași, while Bogdana Monastery Church resembles the necropolis of St Stephen the Great from Putna.

More details, including contact for accommodation, can be found on Bacău’s County Service for Promoting Tourism website.
