1st IOTA Conference starts in Iași

The Inaugural Conference of the International Orthodox Theological Association began on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, with a Te Deum Service officiated by the Metropolitan Teofan of Moldavia and Bukovina at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași.

The overarching theme of the Inaugural Conference is Pan-Orthodox Unity and Conciliarity.

The Opening Ceremony took place at the National Theatre of Iasi, starting 18:30.

On this occasion, the message of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, was read out by His Eminence Teofan.

„In contemporary society, characterised by increased secularisation, i.e. through relativisation of religious and moral values, a renewal of present Orthodox theology is more and more necessary, through a presentation of the deep connection between the truths of faith, liturgical life and the mystic-ascetic experience of the Church”, Patriarch Daniel wrote in the message.

The Keynote speaker of the evening was Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) of Diokleia.

The Conference will conclude on Saturday evening, January 12.
