Romanian Orthodox priest in Spain says listening to people is central to parish ministry

Fr Ioan Poștoi, parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox community in Roquetas de Mar, Spain, gave an interview to the Spanish publication IDEAL in which he spoke about his pastoral work and parish activities.

“I want to work with people, because it is very important to listen to them. Every person who comes to speak with you needs patience, to be listened to and to receive good advice,” the priest said.

Fr Ioan explained that he remains available to anyone seeking help: “I am always available to talk, to pray together or for anything important to them.”

Asked about his priestly vocation, Fr Ioan Poștoi said that he attended church from childhood and benefited from the guidance of a dedicated priest.

Activities for young people

The priest also spoke about the activities organised by the parish for young people and children within the community.

“We want to organise a youth camp this summer in an area of Almería province. The camp is intended to help young people enjoy themselves and spend meaningful time together. We will have prayers, visits, excursions and other activities.”

The parish priest stressed that the initiative is not limited only to members of the Romanian community: “People from other towns or regions may also come. It is intended mainly for Orthodox Christians, but if a Catholic or a Spaniard wishes to participate, they are warmly welcome.”

Fr Ioan Poștoi has served in Spain for 21 years, during which he ministered to several Romanian communities. He currently also serves as Dean of Seville.
