Romania will mark Living Human Treasure National Day on November 30 beginning this year

The President of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis, recently promulgated a law establishing November 30 as the National Day of the Living Human Treasure.

The initiator, MP Florin-Claudiu Roman, chose this date because it is the feast of St. Andrew the First-called, the patron saint of Romania.

The law aimed to “increase the degree of recognition and visibility of the keepers and transmitters of intangible cultural heritage.”

Through the rules introduced, the law allows central and local public administration authorities and other public institutions to organise or support cultural, artistic and educational events dedicated to this day.

UNESCO awards the “Living Human Treasure” title to persons recognised in their community as keepers, bearers, creators and transmitters of intangible cultural heritage elements, such as crafts or ancient artistic manifestations.
