Sixteen festal icons painted by the monks of Putna Monastery have been donated for the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral.
The announcement was made by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel on the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
The 16 festal icons that will be on display inside the new Orthodox Cathedral in Bucharest include the following representations:
- Dormition of the Mother of God
- Epiphany of the Lord
- Annunciation of the Theotokos
- Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem
- Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple
- Ascension of the Lord
- Exaltation of the Holy Cross
- Presentation of Jesus at the Temple
- Resurrection of the Lord
- Transfiguration of the Lord
- Saint Andrew the First-Called and the Ascension of the Lord (the Cathedral’s two patronal feasts)
- Saint Andrew the First-Called, Protector of Romania
- Nativity of the Lord
- Pentecost
- Circumcision of our Lord Jesus Christ and Saint Basil the Great
