Outgoing apostolic nuncio in Romania meets with Patriarch Daniel

The outgoing papal envoy to Romania, Monsignor Miguel Maury Buendía, met with His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel on the second day of Holy Pascha, April 17, 2023. His Excellency stated that he wanted the Patriarch of Romania to be the first person to bid farewell to after ending his diplomatic mission in Romania.

“I spent more than seven years here in Romania. As soon as I came, I visited His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, and throughout this period, we had good relations. Now, His Beatitude is the first person I wanted to bid farewell to,” the nuncio said.

“We talked about my new mission. Many Romanians are in Great Britain, so we will continue to stay in touch. This is the central reason for my visit: to say goodbye to His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and to thank him for everything I received from the Romanian people over these years.”

At the end of the meeting, Monsignor Miguel Maury Buendía gave a short press statement in which he appreciated the excellent collaboration with the Romanian Orthodox Church and expressed the hope that this collaboration would continue.

Pope Francis appointed Monsignor Miguel Maury Buendía apostolic nuncio to Great Britain.
