Donatie lot olimpic Episcopia Devei si Hunedoarei

Wednesday, the Orthodox Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara, represented by Bishop Gurie, donated sports equipment worth €16,000 to the Olympic gymnastics team. The event took place on 9 August 2017 in the gym of the Deva Municipal Sports Club, in the presence of gymnasts and their coaches.

The Deva Diocese purchased an Acrotramp Long Trampoline of 12, 7 meters and an acrobatic slope, which are of the utmost necessity for the proper conduct of the gymnasts’ training.

His Grace Gurie, Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara, officiated a blessing service, after which he presented the gymnasts with the sports equipment.

This donation of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara is part of the constant concern of the Hunedoara Church in terms of encouraging performance, both in sports and in medical, cultural and educational fields. We hope that this action will mobilize other private or institutional initiatives to support and promote performance in all areas of social interest, reads a Wednesday press release from the Diocese’s Press Office.

Bp. Gurie noted the necessity of the sports equipment during his May 17 meeting with the athletes of the Olympic and national teams at the Diocesan Centre. During the meeting, bp. Gurie discussed with couch Nicolae Forminte the stringent needs of gymnasts in order to maximize sports performance.
