„Maria Brancoveanu” Cross Order For Lady Iuliana Mateescu

Today, 18 December 2014, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church awarded, at the Patriarchal Residence, the “Maria Brancoveanu” Cross Order to Mrs Iuliana Mateescu, president of the “Recognition of the Romanian Customs and Traditions” Association. The distinction was awarded for having made the films “An image of light – Archimandrite John, abbot of Hurezi Monastery” and “Maria, First Lady of all Ungro-Wallachia”.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel appreciated the fact that the documentary “Maria, First Lady of all Ungro-Wallachia” emphasised the virtues of Lady Maria Brancoveanu. “You succeeded by God’s grace and much effort to emphasise her faith, sacrifice, tenacity and faithfulness for the Church and nation and especially the fact that she was the mother of eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. It is very important to underline this aspect of virtues too, namely to have a family with many children, to grow them up, educate them, and provide them with a decent future”.

The members of the Standing Meeting of the Church National Council attended the event.
