His Grace Ciprian Campineanul is the New Archbishop of Buzau and Vrancea

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate informs us:

On 28 February 2013, the working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church began at the Patriarchal Residence under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

After the session was opened, chaired by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the election of the titular hierarch for the vacancy of Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Buzau and Vrancea began.

Out of the two candidates assigned by the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Muntenia and Dobrodgea in consultation with the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Buzau and Vrancea, the Holy Synod elected, by secret vote, His Grace Ciprian Campineanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, for the vacancy of Archbishop of Buzau and Vrancea with 41 votes out of 47 validly expressed.

The enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop of Buzau and Vrancea will take place in the Archiepiscopal Cathedral dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord, of Buzau city, on Sunday, 10 March 2013, after the Divine Liturgy.

His Grace Ciprian Campineanul was born in Iasi county, in Suhulet locality, on 19 April 1965.

In 1987, he graduated the Theological Seminary of Buzau, and then, in 1992, the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Bucharest. He attended the theology courses for a doctor’s degree at Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, getting the title of doctor in 1992. From 1998 – 1999 he attended Studies in Byzantinology and Ecumenism in Bari, Italy.

He joined monastic life at Crasna Monastery, Prahova county.

In 2000 he was ordained hieromonk, and in July 2002 he was elected Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch (ordained hierarch on 22 September 2002), coordinating: The Holy Synod Office and the Departments for Church and Inter-religious Relations, External Communities and Social – Philanthropic.

His Grace Ciprian Campineanul has been the Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church since 2009.
