During the visit occasioned by the enthronement of His Eminence Ioan Selejan as Metropolitan of Banat, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel was awarded the title of citizen of honour of the county of Timis. The event took place in “Vienna” hall of Timisoara Hotel, in the presence of the 17 hierarchs of the Holy Synod participating in the enthronement ceremony, of the local and county authorities, of the clergy, monks and nuns of the Archdiocese of Timisoara, and of the Diocese of Covasna and Harghita, as Valentin Birau related.
To start with the event, Titu Bojin, president of Timis County Council read Laudatio which emphasised the merits of His Beatitude, a great son of Banat, who honoured the Church of Banat and the county of Timis through the activity unfolded in the ecumenical and cultural fields. Then, His Beatitude was given a silver necklace adorned with several medallions representing the arms of the county, a medal, and a plaque of the insignia of the county of Timis.
“We are glad because the county of Timis makes progress in several fields and it is a bridge between Romania and Western Europe. Thank you for this beautiful and noble distinction and we also pray God to bless the County Council, all the members of the County Council, Timisoara city, and the county of Timis. The Church and the local authorities, supported by the central ones wish to bring joy to the people, because they trust us”, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said.
His Beatitude offered, in his turn, the County Council the icon of Saint Martyr Constantine Brancoveanu, because this year was dedicated to the Brancovean Saints Martyrs in the Romanian Patriarchate, as well as the Brancoveanu year proclaimed by the Romanian Government. The President of the County Council of Timis received the Homage diploma and medal of the Brancovean Saints Martyrs on behalf of His Beatitude. The new Metropolitan of Banat, His Eminence Ioan Selejan was awarded a diploma of honour and the insignia of the county of Timis on behalf of the County Council.
