Thursday, 6 November 2014, the working session of the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitanate of Banat took place, chaired by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Archbishop locum tenens and Metropolitan of Banat, with the participation of His Eminence Timotei, Archbishop of Arad, His Grace Lucian, Bishop of Caransebes and His Grace Paisie Lugojanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Timisoara.
During this meeting, His Beatitude presented the members of the Metropolitan Synod the list approved of the hierarchs eligible for the dignity of Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat. According to the provisions of the Statutes for the organisation and functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the Metropolitan Synod established, through open consulting followed by secret consulting vote, a list of two candidates from among the hierarchs eligible for the dignity of Archbishop of Timisoara and Metropolitan of Banat. These are the following:
- His Grace Dr Lucian Mic, Bishop of Caransebes
- His Grace Dr Sofronie Drincec, Bishop of Oradea
The list of the two candidates established by the Metropolitan Synod will be presented during its special consulting meeting with the extended Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Timisoara, on 7 November 20114, 10.00 hours.
