Divine Liturgy at „Maica Precista” Church in Ploieşti

With the blessing of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, Friday, 25 March 2016, His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, celebrated the Divine Liturgy, at “Maica Precista” church in the city of Ploieşti.

In the sermon delivered, His Grace showed that the Holy Fathers and especially Maxim the Confessor said that the angel was amazed of the purity of the thoughts of the Virgin: “An angel was astonished when he saw so much purity on the earth, because the meeting between heaven and earth took place at the Annunciation time. The power of the Most High will overshadow you, namely the work higher than this world met the purest being that humans could offer to God”.

“Maica Precista” parish church is a historical monument. The patrimony of this parish includes an icon of the Mother of God given by Tsar Alexander II, as well as a particle of the Holy Relics of Saint Ekaterina. At present, the church is being extensively restored.

“Maica Precista” church dedicated to the “Falling Asleep of the Mother of God” is one of the religious, historical and art monuments of Ploieşti and it belongs to the local and national patrimony. According to the text at the entrance, the present church was built at the time of Ruler Prince Ioan Alexandru Şuţu, on 10 May 1820.
