Christian Faith is Intrinsic Part of the Romanian Identity

The Protector of Romania, Saint Andrew the Apostle, the First Called, was specially worshipped today, 30 November 2012, at the Patriarchal Cathedral, where the Patriarch of Romania celebrated the Divine Liturgy. His Beatitude showed in the speech delivered that today’s feast is a holiday of the entire Romanian people pointing out the fact that Christianization was achieved at the same time with the ethno genesis. So, the Christian faith is intrinsic part of the Romanian identity, for which fact our dignity of apostolic church obligates us to accomplish our duty of confessors of the love of Christ, of the apostolic faith, wherever we may be, explained His Beatitude.

“Very impressive is the fact that our young people who study abroad and work within the European institutes in Brussels and Strasbourg in France are among the most religious young ones who go to the Romanian churches every Sunday and who organised themselves within our Romanian Orthodox dioceses in Western Europe, namely they are religious because they have religious parents, as well as because they benefited of the Religion class. It is a well known fact that after the Revolution the Church insisted that the Religion class abusively removed from schools during the communists’ time should be reintroduced in schools, because in fact Christian faith is not a reality external to our people, something added, but an intrinsic part of the Romanian identity, because it has never been a time in history when the Romanian people was pagan. The moment it was born, it was Christianized too. Thus, our dignity of apostolic church obligates us to accomplish our duty of confessors of the love of Christ, of the apostolic faith wherever we may be, in any social position and any place on the globe”, the Patriarch of Romania showed.

The Romanian Patriarchate ought to preach the apostolic faith received from Saint Andrew the Apostle.

His Beatitude has also emphasised the fact that “A very important role for maintaining and strengthening the Christian Romanian Orthodox communion is played today by Basilica Press Centre, through Trinitas radio and television stations, and through its other branches too, especially through Basilica News Agency, so that the Romanians living abroad should be better in touch by satellite or by internet with the Romanian Patriarchate, which has the duty to preach the apostolic faith received from Saint Andrew the Apostle”.
