Change Comes from Us: First Results of „Clothes Bank” Campaign

Two weeks ago (18 July 2016), Diaconia Social Mission department of the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia launched the project entitled “Clothes Bank”. At that time, five boxes for collecting things were placed in the five districts of the capital city of the Republic of Moldova and the people were urged to support the project donating clothes, footwear, bedclothes and other useful things. The first results show an amount of about 3,5 tons of things donated.

All these things will come to a second life in the hands of those who need support, Ludmila Popescu, responsible with the press within Diaconia Social Mission department, said.

We have not expected such mobilisation of people. The time of the boxes emptying will be established according to the amount and periodical donations, but for the time being we ask everybody to help us with this common effort of solidarity. We invite you to be part of this process, so that when you see the box full do not let the bags near the box, but come back when it is empty. We expect most donations during the week, from Monday to Friday, because we better and more efficiently succeed in mobilising our resources during the week days – Igor Belei, director of Diaconia Social Mission, said.

1,460 kg of clothes have been distributed so far as follows:

  • Social wardrobe in the parishes of the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia: Ucrainca – 315 de kg, Climăuţi – 164 de kg, Feteşti – 159 de kg, Coşcalia – 159 de kg, Pojoreni – 165 kg;
