His Grace Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of the Anglican Communion, visited Curtea de Argeș Monastery on Wednesday. His delegation included the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain in Bucharest, Andrew Noble LVO.
The Archbishop of Canterbury was welcomed at the new Archdiocesan Cathedral by the Neagoe Basarab Theological Seminary choir.
Accompanied by the Archbishop of Argeș and Muscel, the Archbishop of Canterbury visited the royal tombs, paying homage to King Michael and his family members.
The visit continued to the old Archdiocesan Cathedral, the foundation of Saint Neagoe Basarab, where the guests were delighted by the church’s architecture and the royal and princely necropolis.
His Grace Justin Welby received a silver icon representing the Mother of God as a gift from His Eminence Archbishop Calinic.
Archbishop Calinic led the delegation to the archdiocesan chapel and museum, and finally, the guests admired the old wooden church in the yard of Curtea de Argeş Monastery.
The visit ended in the Archdiocesan Palace, where the guests admired the Manole Hall and the royal rooms, recently restored through a project with European funding.
