9 May 1975 – Archbishop TEOFIL IONESCU passed away in Paris. Studies at “Metropolitan Nifon” Seminary and at the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest. He was awarded the title of doctor in theology in Paris. Tonsured into monasticism at Tismana Monastery in 1915, later on priest at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest (1928 – 1939), archimandrite and abbot of the Romanian Orthodox church in Paris (1939 – 1945), servant in various communities in the U.S.A. and Canada (1946-1954). Titular Bishop of Sevres (since 1954), received in the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1972. In December 1974 he was raised to the rank of Archbishop. He wrote various articles in the church publications between the two world wars, as well as two volumes of sermons (Bucharest 1938).
