March 1921 – Art historian and scientific researcher CORNELIA PILLAT
was born in Bucharest. After the secondary school studies at “Queen
Maria” Secondary School, she attended the courses of the Faculty of Art
History and of the Faculty of Philology of Bucharest. She studied
documents at the Institute of Art History (1955 – 1958), then museum
guide with the Library of the Romanian Academy (1958 – 1965). After Dinu
Pillat was arrested in March 1959, she had to divorce formally, because
she could no longer keep her job if she had the name of Pillat. After
her husband came back from prison, in the summer of 1964, she was
received again at the Institute of Art History, where she worked as
researcher from 1965 till 1975, when she was transferred to the
Department of Historical Monuments. After the death of her husband
(1975), Cornelia Pillat dedicated herself to publishing the writings of
Dinu Pillat, as well as to the publication of the three editions of the
work of poet Ion Pillat (from 1983 till 2004).
