The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada and Dormition of the Mother of God Parish have announced the date and programme for the consecration of the new church of Boian Parish in Alberta—the oldest Romanian Orthodox community on Canadian soil.
Founded 128 years ago by Romanian immigrants from the northern Bukovinian village of the same name, Boian Parish is one of the oldest Romanian communities in all of North America.
After the original church, dating from 1905, was destroyed by fire in 2023, the Boian parish in Alberta rebuilt it according to an improved design, featuring a floor area 50% larger than before, energy-efficient heating, and improved accessibility.
The church’s consecration will coincide with the parish’s patronal feast.
