Romanian Patriarchate’s Basilica Media Centre marks Holy Trinity feast by reaffirming Church mission

On the Feast of the Holy Trinity (Monday of the Holy Spirit), the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate reaffirmed its mission to communicate the life of the Church and promote the values of the Christian faith in the public sphere.

All components of the Basilica Media Centre are under the protection of the Holy Trinity, as reflected most visibly in the Trinitarian names borne by Radio Trinitas and Trinitas TV. In the same spirit, the Patriarchate’s daily newspaper is associated with the symbol of light, while the news agency, like the media centre as a whole, bears the Latin name for the Church—Basilica.

Although some of its constituent institutions have a longer history, the Basilica Media Centre itself was established on 27 October 2007 at the initiative of Patriarch Daniel.

The Press and Public Relations Office of the Romanian Patriarchate, founded in 1990, serves as the official communication channel between the Romanian Patriarchate, the media, and the wider public.

Radio Trinitas

Founded in Iași in April 1998, Radio Trinitas now broadcasts on dozens of terrestrial frequencies, online and via satellite, making it one of the most important Orthodox media platforms in the Romanian-speaking world.

In February this year, the Patriarchate’s radio station launched the platform asculta.radiotrinitas.ro, a web application designed to provide a smooth, fast, and intuitive listening experience directly in the browser of any device, whether a mobile phone, tablet, or computer.

Developed as a modern Single-Page Application (SPA) and Progressive Web App (PWA), the platform complements the existing Radio Trinitas applications available for Android and iOS devices.

Lumina Newspaper

Lumina Newspaper has been in publication for over two decades and remains one of the few daily newspapers still published in Romania. It is complemented by the weekly Lumina de Duminică and the magazine Vestitorul Ortodoxiei (The Herald of Orthodoxy).

Its first edition appeared on 7 February 2005 as a tribute from Patriarch Daniel—then Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina—to Patriarch Teoctist on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

The Patriarchate’s newspaper currently averages approximately 22,000 copies per issue. It has been printed in full colour since 2015 and in a 16-page format since 2021. Since 2010, all content has also been published online.

Basilica News Agency

Established in 2007, Basilica News Agency is the only news agency operated by an autocephalous Orthodox Church. It publishes daily reports on Church life in Romania and the diaspora and has become a reference point for Orthodox journalism and Christian digital communication.

Through its website and active presence on major social media platforms (FacebookXInstagramPinterest, Telegram and WhatsApp), the agency promotes Orthodox values and connects Romanian communities around the world.

Readers can also subscribe to its weekly newsletter, which provides a summary of the most important Church, social and cultural developments.

Trinitas TV

Launched in 2007, Trinitas TV broadcasts religious, cultural and educational events and produces documentaries and programmes dedicated to Church life.

According to the latest must-carry list published by Romania’s National Audiovisual Council, Trinitas TV currently ranks sixth nationwide, making it one of the most-watched thematic television channels in Romania and the highest-ranked religious television station in the country.

The Romanian Patriarchate’s media presence expanded further in November 2025 with the launch of Trinitas Film, described as the world’s first Orthodox Christian streaming platform. It offers access to an extensive archive of religious, cultural and educational audiovisual productions.

Available online and through dedicated Android and iOS applications, Trinitas Film is also expected to expand to smart TV platforms in the future.
