The first Romanian Orthodox church built in the traditional Maramureș style in Japan is taking on an increasingly visible shape after the church’s tower was installed on Tuesday.
The announcement of the tower installation was made by the parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox Parish of Tokyo, who expressed gratitude to all those who have supported the project so far.
“We thank everyone who has helped us reach this point! We also thank those who will continue to help us from now on!”, parish priest Daniel Corîu said.
According to the priest, the works are far from complete. In the coming period, work will continue on the roof, stairways, iconostasis and church porch.
The church is set under the patronage of Saint Demetrius the New and is being built near the first Orthodox cemetery in Japan, established by the Romanian community in Minami-Alps. The foundation stone was blessed in March by parish priest Daniel Corîu.
All those who contributed to the construction of the church will be considered founders and will be commemorated during the services held there.
