Sainthood of Metr. Joseph Naniescu, Lay-Ascetic George Lazăr to be officially proclaimed on March 25 in Iași

The Doxologia Orthodox portal of the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina announced the date when the sainthood of the two newly-canonized Metropolitan Joseph Naniescu and lay-ascetic George Lazăr will be officially proclaimed. The ceremony will take place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iași on the feast of the Annunciation, March 25, 2018.

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, during its working session in October last year, decided the glorification of the Moldavian Metropolitan Joseph Naniescu and the lay-ascetic George Lazăr.

The Holy Synod decided that Saint Joseph the Merciful, Metropolitan of Moldavia, be commemorated every year on January 26, and Saint George the Pilgrim on August 17.

Given that in 2017 the Romanian Patriarchate paid homage to the holy icons, iconographers and church painters, the Holy Synod canonized the greatest Romanian church painter of the Cantacuzine and Brâncoveanu era, founder and teacher of Byzantine iconography school of national specificity, Venerable Paphnutius – Pârvu the Mute.
