Ordination of Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand at the Phanar

Greek Metropolitan of New Zealand Myron

The Very Rev. Archimandrite Myron Ktistakes was ordained Wednesday, July 11, 2018, to the Episcopate during the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at St George Church at the Phanar.

Concelebrants for the Divine Liturgy included Archbishop of Crete Eirinaios of Crete, Metropolitan Joseph of Proikonissos, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Ganos and Chora, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Kisamos and Selinos, Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamassos and Orini, Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea, and Metropolitan Gerasimos of Petra and Cheronissos.

Archimandrite Myron of Cretan origin was elected Metropolitan of New Zealand by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the end of May, following the retirement of Metropolitan Amphilochios Tsoukos.

Myron Ktistakes was born on 15 September 1969 on the island of Crete.

He graduated from the Agricultural University of Athens in 1993, and followed postgraduate studies at the Agronomic Institute of Chania.

In 1996 he was tonsured a monk at the Agarathos Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, being ordained to the diaconate the following year.

In 2001 he was ordained a hieromonk. The same year he graduated from the Faculty of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Currently he is a final year student at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Crete.

In 2015 he was appointed preacher (hierokeryx) of the Archdiocese of Crete.
