National Church Council meets at the Patriarchal Residence, evaluates 2017 Church activity

The members of the National Church Council met Tuesday for their annual session under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. During the meeting held at the patriarchal residence in Bucharest, the Council evaluated the activity of the Romanian Church in 2017 and set proposals for 2018.

The Patriarch read out the synthesis report on the activities of the Romanian Patriarchate in 2017, pointing to the construction stage of the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral and noted that the consecration celebrations will take five days, from November 25 to November 30.

His Beatitude also announced that His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will attend the consecration of the National Cathedral that will take place on 25 November 2018.

Regarding the social activities of the Romanian Patriarchate, the report states that ‘110,782,632 lei (approx. 24 million Euros) were spent in order to support the entire social activity of the Romanian Patriarchate in 2017.’

‘This sum does not include many charitable activities of parishes and monasteries for the sick, the elderly, for children and the poor, which have not been financially quantified and, as such, have not been systematically reported to the diocesan centres,’ Patriarch Daniel said Feb 13.
