Holy Synod to appoint bishops for vacant episcopal sees

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church met Thursday at the Synodal Hall of the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest for its working session.

The themes on the agenda announced in the opening of the works by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the Holy Synod’s Chairman, include the election of hierarchs for some vacant episcopal sees in the Romanian Orthodox Church, ‘in order to develop and intensify the activities of our Church.’

During this working session, the Romanian hierarchs will discuss the relations of the Romanian Orthodox Church with the other Autocephalous Orthodox Churches, including the issue of the Ukrainian Church.

The agenda also includes the proposal to add to the church calendar a new feast dedicated to the Directress Wonderworking Icon of the Mother of God from Neamt Monastery.

The Directress Wonderworking Icon of the Mother of God from Neamt Monastery.

The icon will be celebrated on July 9.

The adding of the renowned icon of the Mother of God to the local calendar represents ‘a great joy’ both because of the special devoutness Romanian believers have and ‘because it is venerated by other sister Orthodox Churches,’ His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel reported according to Radio Trinitas.

Other topics include liturgical and educational activities, as well as the participation of delegates of the Romanian Orthodox Church to various international events.
