Western Europe Metropolitan Iosif meets with Romanian Ambassador to London

During his pastoral visit to Great Britain, His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif of Western and Southern Europe had a meeting with the Ambassador of Romania in London, Her Excellency Laura Popescu, on Friday, March 4, 2022.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Romanian diplomatic mission.

“I was happy to meet with His Eminence Iosif, Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Western Europe and Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, during his visit to London,” Her Excellency Ambassador Laura Popescu said.

“We talked about the Romanian community, the role and involvement of the Church as a whole, and of parishes, in particular, in deepening the integration of Romanians in British society,” Romanian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland noted.


According to official statistics, Romanians are the second-largest EU minority in the United Kingdom, after Poland. The Romanian community in the UK numbers about one million people.

The Romanian Orthodox parishes in Great Britain are under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Western Europe.
