US Ambassador to Romania meets Patriarch Daniel, appreciates efforts of the Church for the progress of Romanian society

His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, welcomed Wednesday, 31 May 2017, at his Patriarchal Residence His Excellency the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bucharest, Mr. Hans Klemm.

Ambassador Hans Klemm thanked for the warm welcome and noted that during his stay in Romania he visited several monasteries and churches such as Putna, Agafton, and Curtea de Argeș, which offered him a deeper knowledge of the Romanian realities.

Moreover, the US Ambassador thanked Patriarch Daniel for the point of view of the Romanian Orthodox Church regarding the moral support offered in continuing the fight against corruption in Romania and expressed his appreciation for the progress made so far.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel thanked for his appreciations and stressed that the Church fulfils her vocation to be a factor of balance and peace in society by permanently inviting everyone to dialogue and co-responsibility in maintaining and promoting common good in society and in the relations between various religious denominations, while manifesting mutual respect for ethnic and religious identity.

During the meeting, the Patriarch pointed out the priorities of our Church for the next period such as the construction of the National Cathedral in the perspective of the 100th anniversary of the Great Union (1918-2018). He pointed to the Church’s responsibility to offer appropriate answers to the pastoral needs of her faithful, by actively involving and providing spiritual assistance to persons in hospitals, penitentiaries, elderly centres, children’s homes. The Patriarch also referred to the church’s support offered to various social categories in difficulty or in situations of risk and of social exclusion.

In addition, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel recalled the manifold activities carried out by the Church in the year 2017 dedicated to the commemoration of Patriarch Justinian and the defenders of Orthodoxy during communism. He also remembered the special care of the Church for a better pastoral organization of the Romanian Orthodox Diaspora, including the American continent.
