Two candidates head to Holy Synod final election of new Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți

The assembly of bishops (synod) of the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina gathered Saturday, July 11, for a working session in Iași during which two candidates were proposed for the vacant episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți.

The archdiocesan see became vacant after the repose of 90-year old Archbishop Pimen Suceveanul of blessed memory.

The synod was chaired by Metropolitan Teofan of Moldavia and Bukovina. Members included Archbishop Ioachim of Roman and Bacău, Bishop Ignatie of Huși, Assistant Bishop Calinic of Botoșani, and Assistant Bishop Damaschin of Dorna.

According to a press release, the two assistant bishops Calinic and Damaschin were designated eligible for the archdiocesan see of Suceava and Rădăuți.

The same day, the hierarchs discussed with the representatives of the clergy and laity of the Archdiocesan Assembly of Suceava and Rădăuți.

The two proposals were submitted to the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The new Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți will be elected on July 21, 2020.

‘We pray to the Almighty God to ordain in the service of Archbishop of Suceava and Radauti the most suitable pastor, who will paternally lead the clergy and the faithful of this diocese on the path of salvation!’
