Timisoara Archdiocese urges believers to help feed migrants during Lent

In recent months, Romania has become the main transit gateway for migrants, most of them from Afghanistan, who are trying to reach the countries of Western Europe in search of a better life.

More than two-thirds of migrants crossing Romania are registered in the western city of Timisoara, many returning there after being accommodated in various centres in the country, hoping to move on.

The Archdiocese of Timișoara and the Timișoara Filantropia Foundation, personally coordinated by Metropolitan Ioan, have already provided, several times, food and objects of a strict necessity for these people who suffer from hunger and cold.

The last such action, organized with His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Banat’s care, took place last week. Hundreds of kilograms of various perishable and non-perishable foods were offered to migrants sheltered in Timisoara until their situation will be clarified.

“Let’s get involved in supporting the joint efforts to help these brothers and sisters facing needs and wants”, the Archdiocese of Timisoara urged at the beginning of Great Lent.
