The Archdiocese of Timisoara starts its most important project next year. A multifunctional complex for social services and educational, cultural and physical activities will be built in Timisoara. The AfiOM project – Timișoara Philanthropic Multiplex will include a youth centre, a gym, a maternity home for women in pregnancy crisis, a kindergarten and an Orthodox chapel.

The building will have three levels. One level will include the youth centre and the gym, which will include a handball court, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and an indoor soccer field. It will be possible to carry out educational, cultural and voluntary actions here.

“The mission of this social project is to inspire hope and contribute to the well-being and personal development of young people, providing them with the necessary place and means to strengthen the community of Timisoara,” the representatives of the archdiocese explained.

Another level will be dedicated to the home for mothers in pregnancy crisis. Young women will receive accommodation, material help and counselling to give birth and raise their children.

“By involving companies eager to help, we will be able to offer a future to those mothers by finding a job and reintegrating them into society,” the archdiocese said in a press release.

On the ground floor of the AfiOM Multiplex Timisoara, there will be a kindergarten open to all children, but will also provide free education for social cases.

The Orthodox Chapel of All Romanian Saints will be built in the vicinity of the building.

The project is carried out by the Filantropia Foundation of the Archdiocese of Timișoara. The organization stated that “AfiOM is a project based on the support of the city’s entire community and on the trust granted by the City Hall of Timișoara and the Archdiocesan Centre.”

Construction will begin in the autumn of 2022, while the fundraising campaign began this December.
