The Holy Light at the Romanian Patriarchate

The Holy Light from the church of the Holy Sepulchre arrived in Bucharest at Henri Coanda Aiport, around 19.40 hours, brought by a delegation of the Romanian Patriarchate. Then, the Holy Light carried by His Grace Varsanufie Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, was met at the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

On this occasion, the Patriarch of Romania showed in his speech that the Holy Light is a gift of God for the faithful.

“We thank God because this year too we received the Holy Light of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, namely the Light of the Resurrection of Christ. Our Liturgy says Your Sepulchre, Christ, is the source of our resurrection; the Resurrection Light springs from the sepulchre of Jesus Christ, our Lord. This Light, a Divine gift, represents Him, Christ, the Light of the World who is Alfa and Omega, the Beginning and End, the Creator and Saviour of the world. This light from the Holy Sepulchre shows us the victory of life over death, the victory of Christ over sin, over hell and over death, getting the eternal life, with no death, no sighing, no decay, the eternal life in the glory of the Most Holy Trinity. Christ is the First One who resurrected for the eternal life and He made Himself the beginning of the universal resurrection. The Church lives on this light of the Resurrection of Christ between His Resurrection and the Resurrection of all people on the last day when He comes to judge the living and the dead whose Kingdom will have no end and change the present universe into a new heaven and earth where He shines over the entire creation with the Light of the Resurrection with the Glory of His Resurrection. This light of the Resurrection which spreads from Jerusalem to all the people also shows the Light of the Gospel of Christ which began at Jerusalem and was preached to all peoples through the Saint Apostles and their descendents. This light coming from Jerusalem confirms the light of the Orthodox faith because it is only at the Orthodox Easter that his light is given to those who come with great joy to receive it”, His Beatitude said.

The Holy Light will be offered at the Resurrection service (24.00 hours) by His Beatitude Patriarch to the clergy and faithful present at the Patriarchal Cathedral.
