Te Deum Service and Wreath-Laying Ceremony in Honour of the Founders of Union of 1859

The events dedicated to the 158th anniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities (1859) began Tuesday morning with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest.

Next, His Grace Varlaam of Ploiești, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, officiated Jan. 24 a Te Deum service at which the Patriarch of Romania attended. The service was a thanksgiving to God for the accomplishment of this great act in the history of the Romanian people to which the Romanian Orthodox Church had an important contribution.

A wreath laying ceremony followed at the statue of Ruler Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza on the Hill of the Patriarchate. His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the President of the Romanian Academy, Academician Ionel-Valentin Vlad, and other state representatives attended the ceremony.

After the ceremony, a scientific session was held at the Palace of the Patriarchate entitled 158 years since the Union of the Romanian Principalities.

The same day, the founders of the Union of the Romanian Principalities in 1859 were commemorated at the Patriarchal Cathedral.
