Suceava Archbishop’s Olympiad participant decalogue: Constantly reinvent yourself

In the context of annual countrywide competitions in religious education and theology, Archbishop Calinic of Suceava and Radauti offered a set of ten recommendations for students entitled “The Decalogue of the Olympiad participant.”

“Pray! Do not be sad when you lose lest you risk your health; constantly reinvent yourself, and you will become victorious,” is one of the archbishop’s pieces of advice.

Decalogue of the Olympiad participant

  1. Give thanks to the Most Holy Trinity, the Mother of God, the Saints, and those who have invested in your preparation.
  2. Increase your faith, by which you will acquire the virtue of knowing God, Whose image you bear.
  3. Honour your father and mother who gave birth to you and brought you up and who, with fidelity, watch over your development.
  4. Seek good by much counsel with your teachers, for the knowledge and counsel of the wise will become grace upon grace.
  5. Flee from the evils proposed by secular society, that good may always accompany you.
  6. Look with caution to the successes of others, for you do not know which and how they will end.
Prepare yourself every day as if you were entering a new competition at its end.
  7. Pray! Don’t be sad when you lose, lest you risk your health; constantly reinvent yourself, and you will become victorious.
  8. Keep your mind, soul and body clean, and you will benefit from God’s protection.
  9. Look to the future with faith in God, hope in His providence and love for Family, Church and Country.
