From 21 – 24 May 2013, the International Theological Congress entitled Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen – promoters of the religious freedom and supporters of the Church is held both at the Patriarchate Palace and at the Romanian Academy.
The second day of the symposium was held at the Romanian Academy where the historical – religious context of the ruling of Saint Emperor Constantine the Great was evoked.
Patriarchal Counsellor Constantin Pătuleanu offered more details to Trinitas Radio station: “The symposium entitled Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen – promoters of the religious freedom and supporters of the Church was organised by our Theological Department in collaboration with the Romanian Academy, thinking that we need experts, both from the country and from abroad, to come both to Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna of the Patriarchate Palace and to the Rotunda of the Romanian Academy to decipher the mysteries of the ruling of Constantine the Great.
We have guests from Italy, who took the floor in the Rotunda of the Romanian Academy, from Germany, and Bulgaria, as well as experts in the field of Christian archaeology.
The symposium’s proceedings will be published in a homage book dedicated to Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen.
“This congress organised at the initiative of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel is designed to gather scientists, theologians, historians, archaeologists who treated the theme of the Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen from various perspectives. We wish to meet here and see the present knowledge on Emperor Constantine the Great. In our capacity of representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Church we are opened to any discussion, wishing to see if there are any obscure points or suppositions concerning the life and outstanding activity of Emperor Constantine the Great, and to what extent they are true”, Rev. Prof. Viorel Ioniță from “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Theology of Bucharest said.
