His Beatitude Patriarch Irinej of Serbia arrived on Monday, October 1, on the Holy Mount Athos, after commemorating together with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew the soldiers who heroically sacrificed their lives during the First World War in Thessaloniki.

In Karyes, the Holy Mount’s capital, the Serbian Patriarch was welcomed by the Civil Governor Konstantinos Dimca, and by members of the Holy Epistasia, the supervisory committee responsible for the administration of Mount Athos.

After attending a Doxology at the main church of Protaton Monastery, Patriarch Irinej headed for the Serbian Monastery of Hilandar, where he was welcomed by the abbot Methodije and the brothers of the monastic community.

On Tuesday, October 2, His Beatitude Patriarch Irinej celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Hilandar Monastery, founded at the end of the tenth century by the Greek monk Georgios Helandarios.
